The future of AI art presents two distinct yet interconnected paths. One envisions the blending of physical reality with emerging technologies, such as artificial intelligence. This fusion can be achieved through tools like face recognition systems or coding programs that replicate paintings or images, either to authenticate original works or for purely aesthetic purposes. On the other hand, contemporary conceptual artists like Sarah Meyohas explore the intersection of biology and technology, creating art that bridges the gap between our physical world and the virtual realm. Through her work, Meyohas invites the audience to escape into a realm of fantasy and wealth, offering a unique perspective on the evolving nature of art.

Sarah Meyohas holds a BA in International Relations from the University of Pennsylvania and a B.S. in Finance from the Wharton School. In 2015, she earned an MFA from Yale University.

The virtual world is increasingly influencing not just images and paintings, but also our overall experiences, particularly within galleries. Recently, the line between the physical and virtual realms in installations has become increasingly blurred. One notable example of this shift is the "AI: More Than Human" exhibition at the Barbican. While the artists featured in the exhibit may change each year, the overarching narrative remains constant: exploring the future of AI art.

One artist at the forefront of the future of virtual art is Mario Klingemann, who blends social human crises with the visionary potential of coding and artificial intelligence in his video artworks. Klingemann, an artist who favors tools over traditional paintbrushes, approaches the concept of painting through the lens of neural networks, coding, and algorithms. Teaching himself to program in the 1980s, he has earned recognition as an “Outsider AI” artist. In 2018, Klingemann undertook a residency with Google Arts and Culture, which led to the creation of the viral art historical face-matching app. His exploration of the post-human utopia culminated in the project "Memories of Passersby I," a piece that embodies his unique vision of the future.

The impact of technology on our future is increasingly evident in the visual arts, where artificial intelligence is emerging as a new language of technology. Many artists are moving beyond traditional mediums to embrace this progressive shift, exploring the vast potential of AI in their work. As we look toward the future of artificial intelligence, it is crucial to recognise its role and advancements, particularly within the arts, where it is reshaping both the creative process and the very definition of art itself.
